Broad River Electric Charity’s benefit comedy show Hilarity for Charity featuring Christian comedian Dennis Swanberg, raised $8,500 for area chapters of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes after over 600 people attended the event Friday, February 17.

It was Swanberg’s first year headlining Hilarity for Charity at Broad River Electric Auditorium in Gaffney.

“Broad River Electric Charities is doing great work,” Swanberg said after the event. “It is wonderful for the FCA to have this kind of support from their local cooperative.”

The funds will be distributed among the FCA chapters in Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union Counties. Since 1954, FCA has been challenging athletes and coaches at every level to use the powerful medium of athletics to impact the world for Jesus Christ. It provides a positive peer group as an alternative to the negative pressures so prevalent in schools today.

“FCA is so grateful to Broad River Electric for their generosity and support of our ministry,” said FCA Area Director for Cherokee County Michael Leazer. “This money will go a long way in helping us continue to make an impact in the lives of coaches and athletes in Cherokee, Spartanburg, and Union Counties. We’d like to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts to Broad River Electric for all they do in supporting not only FCA, but the rest of the community as well.”

Over the last three years, the event has raised over $40,000 for local charities.”

In addition to ticket sales, the event also received support through corporate sponsorships. Hee-Haw Sponsors included Asphlundh Tree Experts, Pike Energy Solutions, Praise Enterprises, Image Plus Signs, The Gaffney Ledger, The Cherokee Chronicle, WZZQ-FM, ESPN-Spartanburg, and WBCU Radio.
