Broad River Raises $12K with Hilarity for Charity

Over 800 see comedian James Gregory to benefit local charities

Broad River Electric Charity’s benefit comedy show “Hilarity for Charity” featuring iconic comedian James Gregory raised $12,000 for local charities after over 800 people attended the event Friday, February 18. It was Gregory’s second consecutive year headlining Hilarity for Charity at Broad River Electric Auditorium in Gaffney.

The funds will be distributed among three organizations: Miracle Hill Rescue Missions in Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties and the Crisis Ministries Network of the Union County Baptist Association.
 “It is a wonderful thing when a night of laughter can help persons in need,” said Bob Bodie, Broad River Charities Board Chairman. “Over the last two years, we are proud to say this event has raised $32,000 for local charities.”
In addition to ticket sales, the event also received support through corporate sponsorships. Hee-Haw Sponsors included Cherokee Acoustics, Asphlundh Tree Experts, Pike Energy Solutions, Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, The Gaffney Ledger, The Cherokee Chronicle, WZZQ-FM, and WBCU Radio. Cackle Sponsors included, Buford St. Drugs & Ace Hardware, Cooperative Electrical Energy Utility Supply, Grayco Electrical, and Image Plus Signs. Chuckle Sponsors included Davis Services, Inc., Piedmont Natural Gas, Blakely Funeral Home, Praise Enterprises, Union County News, Gaffney Auto Parts, Snider Tire, New Horizon Electric Cooperative, SE Equipment, Inc, McCall Thomas Engineering, Altec, and Print Depot.
Broad River Electric Charities is a non-profit subsidiary of Broad River Electric Cooperative, whose purpose is to raise and distribute funds for other non-profit organizations and charities in Union, Cherokee, and Spartanburg Counties. Since its inception in 2010, over $52,000 has been distributed to 11 different charities.
Broad River Electric Cooperative is one of 20 member-owned electric co-ops in South Carolina serving Cherokee, Spartanburg, Union, and Newberry counties in South Carolina and portions of Cleveland, Polk, and Rutherford counties in North Carolina with accountability, integrity, innovation, and commitment to community.
